Customer Service Ideas

Here are some customer service ideas to make your business a success.

1. Be polite and professional: You only have one chance to make a first impression, so make the first impression as excellent as possible. Shortly after the conclusion of our transactions with a company, we often draw some conclusions about the business and its employees. Ensure that your employees are not only polite, but also professional when dealing with customers. Give them ample training and support in this arena. Not only will this help them to be more confident, but in addition it makes your business more efficient.

2. Have a working knowledge of products and/or services: All too often, employees do not have the proper information about products and services. As a result, customers often get information that is incorrect, if they get any information at all. In order to provide excellent customer service, it is crucial that your employees be kept abreast of all the latest information regarding your products and services, especially those employees who interact regularly with customers.

3. Follow policies and procedures consistently: Be sure that employees who regularly interact with customers follow the correct procedures and policies, such as those regarding refunds, warranties and guarantees. Failing to do this will result in needless misunderstandings, confusion and additional troubles leading to poor customer satisfaction. Give the employees the correct set of tools and instruct them on how to utilize them. You will only have a short window of opportunity to provide the customer with the information he/she needs, so be sure that you have the proper training and tools.

4. Instant resolution of complaints
: It’s crucial that you resolve customers’ complaints as quickly as you can. If your customers’ issues are not resolved quickly and satisfactorily, your company’s reputation and image will be compromised, and this could have serious consequences for your company. Document complaints and resolutions so that they can be referred to in the future should similar circumstances recur.

5. Obtaining feedback and acting on it: The best way to improve your customer service is to ask your customers to provide feedback regarding all aspects of your business. You not only acquire new information about the expectations of the customer, but also find out where you are lacking. Quite a number of businesses use this method to remain competitive and improve their products and processes.

6. Keep it Simple: The way to go in today’s businesses is to follow simplicity. This approach is evident in all business today. Look at the iPod for instance; it has developed into a rather popular item mostly due to its ease of use. People love products that are designed well and are simple to use. Simplify your processes and procedures to make it easy for your customers to place an order or ask a question.

Take advantage of the KISS principle — Keep it Short and Simple. Another (humorous) way of putting it is “Keep It Simple Stupid.”

In summary, without using technology, it is not easy to accomplish the previously mentioned strategies in today’s business environment. Invest in the proper technologies with clear objectives as much as possible and you’ll garner rewards well in excess of your initial investment (High ROI, Return on Investment). Providing excellent customer service is only the first of many steps. In order to have your business grow successfully, you must develop loyal customers and these customer service ideas can help you.
