Managing a business, especially an upstart, will no doubt be full of ups and downs so these 10 tips will help you improve business motivation. All sides of the business (cash flow, customer service, the shifting marketplace, a shaky economy) will no doubt knock the wind from anyone. To top things off, life doesn’t always play fair. It is very easy to get discouraged and let the inner fire that inspired you to launch this venture fade away. Without fail, everyone will come to a point when they need an emotional boost.

10ways to improve business motivation to keep you positive and persistent, even in the face of troubles that will seek to beset you.

1 There is a great power that can help sway our emotions, and it is held in our thoughts. Often they shape our outward demeanour. You might find it helpful to read positive, inspirational self-improvement books; meditate on what you absorb through these materials.

2 Other people will need your assistance and encouragement. Pulling someone else up can actually pull you up, too. Always be looking for someone to whom you can lift up.

3 More than likely, it was something more than a pay cheque. This may be something that you love that can really affect the world in a positive way. This might be something that you do well, and love while doing it. Take a second look, and make a second commitment, to the mission of your company. You may need to write, or rewrite your business vision statement. Revaluate what got you started in this field in the first place.

4 Put together a group of supportive people. Keeping yourself in the midst of positive people who not only will listen, but can offer sound advice. Select those who aren’t afraid of the truth, yet have the ability to lift you up when the chips are down–your own personal advisory panel. Without support, it is more likely that you will fall.

5 You need to take the entire negative self-talk captive. Replace it with positive affirmations: written, spoken, and thought. Pay attention to the good things.

6 Give up reliving your past failures, and never look forward to the potentially grim future. Make it a point to learn from every bump and misstep, and grow after every mistake. These instances, the lesson learned, knowledge gained, will be an asset to you in the future, and will be priceless for helping yourself, as well as others down the road. Look at the setbacks as a path to future success.

7 Brainstorm with and grow from. By merely “cussing and discussing” with another person, you can really split the load you bear. Hiring a personal or business coach may be worth considering. You really need someone else to bounce ideas off.

8 Research has shown that smiling causes the release of endorphins which make us feel better. In addition, it can notably reduce blood pressure. Give it a shot! Whether you feel like smiling or not, it really works. Smile a lot!

9 The things around us shape the way we feel about certain things. Happiness comes easier while enjoying some fresh sunshine. Music also can be utilized to relax and rejuvenate. Make your work environment a place that is enjoyable to be in.

10 Get out for some exercise and fresh air. Take a stroll and appreciate the scenery. Change your routine. Give yourself a brief hiatus–a day or two away can really help brush away the dust and allow you to regroup. Treat yourself well.
